Ducky Derby
Bennett Branson, Rotarian
Bennett explained that this is the 15th annual Ducky Derby which will be held
August It . The request is to have the large duck displayed from July 29th to
August lIon the Cooper mall. The lOx 20 tent will be located between the two
light polls and the duck will be located near Kemo sabe by the mail boxes.
Bill pointed out that the new information kiosk might be going right there. Bennett
said they are flexible and will work with the Parks Department.
Bennett said the second request is for a title sponsor to display a second duck near
their business. Morris and Fyrwald sponsored $20,000 this year. The proposal is
to display the duck on the Hyman mall in front of their business. It would be
attached to the railing and extend out six feet into the mall. Bennett said he has
already spoken to the adjacent businesses and they don't have any issues with the
duck. If the mall is not approved the second option would be to attach it to their
awnmg.
Shae said the duck should be taken down at night if it is in the mall.
John relayed that he is opposed to the duck on the mall.
Bennett said the second option would be on the awning above their business.
Don said he had no issue as the Ducky Derby supports non-profits.
Bennett said the hours on the mall would be around 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Shae said the Ducky Derby is very important. She has no problem with the booth
or duck. She has no problem with the duck being on the ground as long as it is
removed at night.
