Aspen~ Colorado Hearing on Complaint - Aspen City Council - August August 23, 1963.
Mayor Garrish called the meeting to order at 5:00PM, with Councilmen Beyer, Braun and Hearing
Newell, City Administrator Humphrey present. McGehee vs
Guido Meyer
Also present were Guido Meyer, Chief Baker, Michael McGehee, Melvin McGe~$e, Art
Jarboe, Sinclair of Scarlett Sinclair Station, Frank Gerzina.
Mayor Garrish said purpose of'hearing is to hear complaint of Melvin McGehee
against Guido Meyer, and said he had been informed by Sheriff Herwick, that unless
Council takes action, the case will be prosecuted by District Attorney.
Michael McGehee said he had just got a m~torcycle, and was working on it at the
Sinclair Station to adjust carburetor, when Guido Meyer came up to him and told him
to turn it off - then slapped him and walked off.
Art 3arboe and Mr. Sinclair said they saw Guido Meyer slap McGehee.
Chief Baker said police had not been called.
Guido Meyer said he had previously been over tQ Sinclair Station to ask them
to stop noise, and that that he had previously called the police to have noise stopped.
Guido admitted slapping McGehee in the face.

Discussed - that there should be an ordinance covering noise abatement/
All Councilmen agreed that Mr. Meyer should not have slapped McGehee that
as Police Magistrate he should have upheld the law, and followed the legal procedure
of filin~ a complaint. ·
Mr. Meyer said he felt he had the right to act as he did due to the way the
"kids" behave.
Councilman Beyer said he felt that Guido Meyer should resign from position
of Police Magistrate.
Guido Meyer said he had already resigned in protest of the issuance of a
liquor license to the Dipsy Doodle.
Mayor Garfish said, as Gui~ Meyer has resigned, Council will now have to find
a replacement as Police Magistrate.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 PM.
