Attached are some images that illustrate the finished three curved benches and a drawing that shows the proposed landscape enhancements where the three new curved benches would be located. Also attached for your information is an image of the proposed prototype bike rack being pursued. Here is a general update as of 9/25: PARKS DEPARTMENT PROJECT UPDATE: Project: Dwell Master plan Implementation Status: 1000/0 Design/990/0 Construction Funds Available: $200,000 in 2005/06 Contact: Scott Chism Description: The Dwell Master plan project is an implementation effort for solutions in the business core of Aspen intended to increase pedestrian lingering, or "dwell" time for the benefit of Aspen's vitality. This implementation effort is the next step necessary to follow all of the significant investment City Council has made in business revitalization solutions. The recommendations contained in the Dwell Master plan have been reviewed by City Council and overwhelmingly endorsed by Aspen's downtown business community. Update 9/25/06: The Fire Hearth is complete. The hearth was run over the weekend of 9/21-9/24 during the cool evenings with many people stopping to enjoy the fire. The hearth has been run Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights every weekend since then. (10/11/06) The Information Kiosk is complete. The Guest Services Pavilion is substantially complete and has been in operation by ACRA since August 5th. The power supply panel at the pavilion had to be reworked in late September/early October to resolve some building inspection issues, which resulted in a delay for power availability until the week of October 9th. As a result of the electric panel reconfiguration, the access to that electric panel was reworked as well. The three (3) curved benches are complete and ready for installation. They are currently being stored in the Parks Dept. shop facility. The installation of these three benches is likely delayed until spring 2007 until the question of "re-evaluating" the location of the guest services pavilion is resolved by City Council. 1 Oil ')/'J()()h Page 2 of2 The proposed bike rack prototype is still being actively pursued for a reasonable unit price to get between 3-5 units in place as soon as possible. Since the City is only willing to commit to a small number of pro toy pes as an experiment, staffhas found the acquistion of3-5 of the proposed units for a cost less than about $1800/ea. to be challenging. Staff is currently talking with a potential supplier/fabricator to create the units for a significantly lower unit cost while still maintaining the design integrity.
