Historic Preservation Guided Tour (site visits) P1 MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Council FROM: Amy Simon, Historic Preservation Officer THRU: Jessica Garrow, Community Development Director RE: Historic Preservation Benefits- Mobile Tour DATE: April 10, 2018 ______________________________________________________________________________ REQUEST OF COUNCIL: Council is not asked to make any decisions at this worksession. The worksession will consist of a van tour of recent development in Aspen in order to review outcomes of the benefits provided through the historic preservation program. Please meet in the alley of City Hall at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10th. The tour will start and end from this location and is expected to last 1- 1 ½ hours, at Council’s discretion. BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY: At a January 2018 worksession, City Council directed the Planning Office to evaluate the historic preservation benefits, in place since 1987, for improvements and alignment with current policies. Last week, staff released an on-line survey seeking public feedback. The survey will be open until April 17th. So far 108 responses have been received. Data from the survey will be analyzed at the end of the month and reported to Council at an upcoming meeting. NEXT STEPS: In late April and early May, the Planning Office will meet with the Historic Preservation Commission and stakeholder groups for additional input on appropriate updates considered from a number of perspectives. Staff will be assembling the ideas received from all of these sources and presenting a policy resolution for Council discussion on May 14th, followed by First and Second Reading of Code Amendments in late May and early June. If Council desires, the proposed timeline can be moved or extended into July and August to continue to develop the best strategies to preserve Aspen’s historic resources. P2 I.
