October 20, 1965
All members Present
A Special Meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission to di&-
cuss with Jerry brown the Zoning for the area now being annexed
(Ordinance No. 16) to the City of Aspen, Colorado.
A discussion followed on the Zoning would be carried over directly
in cases where the County Zon ing and City Zoning coinside, and
what Jerry Brown could recommend for the area.
Some time was spent discussing the Zoning of the properties owned
by the Aspen Institute. A general feeling was that some type
of zoning should be used which was compatible with the unique
uses made of it by the Institute. The Tourist Zone designation
comes closest but still does not cover all the uses; therefore,
the possibility of new zoning categories within the T and R
zones were discussed.
Two new zones, a T-l and R-30, were considered and would be
briefly: T-l would allow one lodge, hotel, motel, etc. unit per
2,000 square ft. R-30 would allow one dwelling unit per 30,000
square ft. The possibility of an "0. zone was brought up "0"
for open land.
A motion was made by Whitaker to recommend to the City Council
that the Area to be annexed be zoned with the same zoning des-
ignation as now exists with the exception of the Institute
properties and that two new City Zoning Classifications (T-l and
R-30) be established for Institute properties. Motion was
seconded by Woodward. Motion carried.
A general discussion of zoning and land use in the master plan
followed.
Meeting adjourned at 9:43 P.M.
Respectfully submitted.
