MINUTES OF PLANNOO & ZONnlG COMMISSION MEETIIlG HELD MARCH 7. 1960
A special meeting of the Planning & Zoning Commission was called to
order at noon on Monday, March 7, 1960, in the Sitzmark Room of the Hotel
Jerome. Members present werel Bill Beyer, John Doremus, Fred Glidden,
Bill Jamell and Herbert Bayer. Jemes Markalunas waD also prep-ent.
The minutes of the previous l!II!leting were read and approved.
The next regular lII!leting will be held at 7130 P.M. on Tuesday, .brch
15, in the City Council room.
The Chairman asked Bill James what the City Council replied regarding
their interest in haT.l.ng the Planning Commission make a further study of
additional revenue for the city of Aspen. Jemes Daid that the City Council
would like the Commission to continue this study. After discussion, it vas
decided to table this study until the more immediately pressing work ill
attended to.
The Chairman passed out pamphlets from the Stete Planning Commission
to various members which Bill James had obtained. The pamphlet, "Zoning -
An Introductory Guide" ill to be malled to the Mmbers of the City Board of
Adjustment when Mmbership of the Board is confirMd. Bill Jamell lias
asked to acquire an additional pamphlet for every member of this Board.
There was a general discussion concerning Trafton Bean's rep~ to our
request for hill fee basis. Herbert Bsyer concluded that it was his feeling
that the fee basis was very fair.
The Chairman stated that at the City Councll meeting on March 7 he
would request a budget forI (1) Revamping the zoning
(2) .fap program.
Secretary Bayer read the minutes from a special meeting of the Map
Call1llittee held on March :3, 1960, a copy of lIhich is attached to these
minutes.
Herbert Bayer, Chairman of the Tree Committee, reported on the
acceptance of the following membersl Fritz Benedict, Henry Pedersen and
Nell Edstrom.
Glidden announced that the Aspen Field Fund lias willing to consider a

50:1 aid program to help pay for the new maps under ooneideration by the
Planning Commission. Doremus is to make this announcement at the City
Council Meting.
There was a general discusBion on matters to be considered in the
zoning changes under study by Bayer and Glidden. Among the subjects
mentioned werel Ofr Btreet parking, Bet backB, height restriction.
Markalunas said there should be a better administration of sign control.
It was suggvsted. a Sign CClDlll1ttee be appointed. The intrepretation of the
present zoning ordinance is not clear. Markalunas is to give his ideas of
changes to Bayer and Glidden in writing.
The meeting was adjourned at 1130 P.M.
