HomeMy WebLinkAboutcoa.cclc.min.092509COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 25, 2009 Chairperson Terry Butler called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners in attendance: Bill Dinsmoor, Andrew Kole, Don Sheeley, Fred Ayarza. John Starr and Mark Goodman were excused. Staff: Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy City Clerk Mitch Osur, Retail Association Mick Ireland, Mayor Julila Theisen, ACRA 12 Days of Aspen Mitch said he can offer two ice skating events or more if needed. Julia said the idea would be to advertise in the paper with an insert. They would also deliver the insert to all hotels etc. Andrew said Graham Slaton will give discounts on events at the Wheeler. Julia went over the budget and feels $20,000 would work for advertising. She was thinking of 65,000 brochures. Don said he feels only one distribution is necessary in the paper. Don volunteered to distribute to the hotels. He said he distributes 10,000 to hotels in a season and we should rethink the 65,000 brochures. Don said he feels a full page ad in the paper would be better that an insert. Bill commented that inserts seem to get tossed away. Bill also supported have the carolers as much as possible on the malls. Mick Ireland said the insert should go in the RFTA buses. Mick said he would help meet with the radio stations and talk about what is going on for the events of the day. Andrew said we can utilize local TV. Kathy will check with Jeff woods on the fire pit and roasting chestnuts. Andrew said Nancy Lesley is working with the Aspen Skiing Company but nothing is firmed up yet. 1 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 25, 2009 Andrew said there is $2,000 left from the mall performers which could be used for carolers etc. and putting on the event. Don suggested incorporating the Messiah into the 12 days of Aspen. Terry said the carolers need to be on the mall as much as possible. Fred said his concern is the outdoors; roasted chestnuts and nuts in the malls; hot chocolate in the mall etc. Outdoors is the correct way to go to the malls active. Mick said people could wear Santa hats and hand out chocolate etc. Don said we need to hire someone to be the event coordinator. We need a captain. Kathy suggested having musicians play by the fire pit since there is electricity already. Kathy will contact a few people and get estimates for an itemized budget to put on the event. Mick said CCLC needs to come up with a budget and present it to Steve Barwick who will discuss it with the council. Next special meeting is Sept. 30`h.
