Kids First Advisory Board Meeting Minutes Thursday, August 2, 2018 – 11:30 – 1:30 In attendance: Chad Schmit, Beth Cashdan, Stefan Reveal, Shirley Ritter, and Nancy Nichols DESIRED OUTCOMES: • Approve minutes from previous meeting – July minutes are approved, MPU • Consider capacity ideas Shirley began the conversation reminding the Kids First Advisory Board members of the questions. 1. How does Kids First feel about funding a different level of quality? 2. Should we be funding wider or deeper? The Kids First Advisory Board feels strongly about the great quality programs that we have and the impact of our funding upon that overall quality. They felt that these efforts should continue with funding adjustments only when needed. There was also agreement that capacity needed to be increased and that this discussion keeps happening every 5 or 6 years. Overall board members agreed that the Capacity Committee should regroup and try to move forward. They directed Shirly, with a couple of KFAB members, to re-open the conversation with Sara Ott and get the City’s support to move forward so that other community businesses and individuals could be advised and be asked for financial support to build more capacity. The capacity committee was so close to moving forward and the Kids First Advisory Board thinks that a bigger effort and more focused move forward should happen sooner rather than later. • Funding and agreement for startup materials for the Early Learning Centers new infant room: ➢ Beth moved – Kids First will fund start up materials for the infant room three in the yellow brick building, combined with a grant to Early Learning Center infant room up to a total of $10,000. Included in these funds will be furniture that will be left in the room when or if Early Learning Center decided to forfeit the room. Chad seconded, MPU. • Shirley shared updates about successful BOB Goals for 2017-2018. She also shared about the recent Children’s Health Fair successes. Additional she told the KFAB about Kids Count lunch event at the Pitkin County Library, August 27th noon.
