MINUTES OF JANUARY 6, 2010
Chairperson, Terry Butler called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Commissioners in attendance: Andrew Kole, Bill Dinsmoor, Fred
Ayarza, Mark Zitell, Mark Goodman, John Starr and Don Sheeley.
Staff: Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy Clerk
12 DAYS OF ASPEN
Andrew said it was a success.
Fred felt that the 12 Days of Aspen can do better next year.
Bill said the fire pit was packed for two weeks.
Andrew said a lot of people were drinking hot chocolate and eating
marshmallows which was provided by the ACRA.
The board requested the ACRA come to a meeting in February to
discuss the event.
The CCLC members that attended Polo said it was a success. The
board requested Barry Stout to come to the next meeting to give an
overview of the event.
Terry said Wagner Park was packed and the event was well put
together.
Council sustainability for $200,000
Andrew said city council signed off on some of the events for the
$200,000. Lisa Johnson got $15,000.
Don said Andrew's idea of Falling in love with Aspen is a success.
Andrew explained his event. It is a shoulder season event and you
come in Wednesday night. There will be about a 1,000 singles, a
bbq and pajama party. Different lectures etc. will occur.
Andrew said it will be social networking.

Mark said the concert at the end of the ski season is tabled until
next year. They don't have enough time left in the season to pull it
off.
Bill mentioned the Lance Armstrong event. It was suggested to
hold back $50,000 for pro bicycling events. That could be
enormous.
Fred also agreed it needs to be championed by Mick and
Armstrong locally to sell Aspen. The board agreed.
Don said the Limelight is selling and the Ski Company is buying it.
The Paas family is going to continue to run the business.
Mark pointed out that the VHI show was awful.
Bill agreed that it is a bad TV show.
Terry said she had a great XMAS with reservations over a three
week period. She was 98% full.
Andrew said all the hotels came down in price and we don't need
moderate hotels because our existing hotels are lowering their
prices.
Mark said his store did better this year than last years. His clients
loved the reindeer that were on the malls.
Terry said next Monday the Bidwell building goes to council.
Mark said it was so great having polo back in Wagner park.
Expansion of Saturday market
Andrew said he thinks council will approve the expansion.

We would take people out of the park and spread one foot between
the booths.
Terry said she didn't call the owner of the parking lot and Little
Annie's. Terry said she talked to Heather Isberian and Ed had a lot
going on over the XMAS. Ed is listening more to Don Lemos and
Little Annie's.
Terry said everyone on the mall is on our side.
MOTION: Andrew moved to go forward with the expansion;
second by Fred. Motion carried 7-0.
Outside food vending.
Public present.
Staff pointed out that at the next meeting the Community
Development will be discussing outside food vending carts.
Andrew said he has a problem with people cutting into the mall
restaurants.
Andrew said the difference between the market and year round the
market is 17 days not a full years. I do not want to drown out local
restaurants.
Bill said the Rio Grande area is not appropriate. Everything is
driven by the location.
Public -The late night is a good idea. Only New York Pizza is
open. Everywhere else around the country there are hot dog stand.
High rents keep us for having small vendors. A lot of high end
restaurants aren't open for lunch.

Mark asked the board to look at the Ajax tavern cart. That offers
cheaper food at lunch.
Saturday Market Vendors -judging
MOTION.• Andrew moved to adjourn; second by Mark. All in
favor, motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
