MINUTES OF JULY 21.2010
Chairperson,Terry Butler called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Commissioners in attendance were: Fred Ayarza, Andrew Kole, Mark
Goodman, and John Starr. Excused were Mark Zitelli, Don Sheeley and Bill
Dinsmoor.

When I drop things off at the thrift store you get stuck in the alley. The
delivery trucks don't park to one side. Maybe a low key sign should be
made for the truck drivers. More people need to get through the alley.
Terry suggested a sign and letter. Peaches and Local Corners should advise
their delivery people to park to the side.
Mark said the alley behind him is very challenging.
Terry suggested a letter to building owners also.
Mark suggested asking the people at the thrift stores to put signs on the
trucks.
Tom Sharkie said a soft sign would be appropriate.
Signage:
John said regarding awnings there are all different signs and lettering on
them and there doesn't seem to be any violations.
Fred said he is opposed to the way the sandwich boards are being used.
Andrew suggested doing one sign for a courtyard.
Andrew said C.P. Paws and Zocalito are in the alley and they should have
one sign.
John said the problem is the Hyman mall. John pointed out the changes:
The sandwich boards will be six square feet instead of nine square feet.
No businesses on the street level get a sandwich board.

Mark said with the economic situation he is not sure the code should be
changed at this time.
John said CCLC does not have a coordinated opinion. CCLC's can appear
individually at the hearing to voice their individual opinions.
John said letting the signs go might not solve the problem. This town is still
down economically. John said we need to do something for the long term.
Terry said she has talked to numerous businesses and the majority are not
doing that well.
Art Walk -Andrew pointed out that Sojourner magazine is sponsoring an
art walk throughout town. They are trying to figure out what would be best.
Terry said the idea of them being around on Saturday is good and they
should tie it into the Hyman mall.
Saturday market
Mark said the rationale was that if you have a store on Hyman Street you get
to be in the market. There are two entrances to the Ute. Bldg. Those in the
Ute are allowed out. Stephen's is blocking the frontage to the building.
Andrew said anyone who can utilize the market I am happy to see them
survive.
Mark said they are taking advantage and it is not fair to have Stephen's have
a rack outside.
John said the main thrust of the market is to not compete with local
businesses. The market is a positive thing for our city.
