John Starr was excused. Al Fresco Shopping Tony Kornasiewicz, Engineering Tricia Aragon, Engineering Mitch Osur, Aspen Sports: The majority of retailers are interested in putting their merchandise out on Ruggerfest weekend. The hotels etc. are full and we anticipate a lot of people. Next year we would like to do the same on Labor Day weekend. Tricia handed out regulations that vendors need to comply with. We don't want this to be too open ended. Some of the businesses won't be able to participate due to their locations. The amount of racks permitted was discussed. Motion: Andrew moved to allow up to four racks or 24 linear feet for each establishment; second by Mark Zitelli. All in favor, motion carried. Tents were discussed. Kathy recommended no tents because visually when you look down the mall you will see one business with a tent and another with nothing and patrons won't go into the adjacent business. The tent visually impedes other businesses. Mitch Osur suggested trying the tents for one weekend as an experiment. The tents also will provide shade etc. MOTION: Andrew made the motion to allow tents for one weekend and that the establishment cannot damage the brick etc. with tent stakes; motion second by Don. All in favor, motion carried. Bill said he was hoping during the holiday event the retail association will contribute. Also we should think about this merchandising time frame for next spring. COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 8, 2010 Mitch said the Big BBQ was a success for retailers but not restauranteures. We want to "fish when the fish are biting ". Andrew asked what the best method would be to get the retailers involved. Mitch said we e -mail the retailers and once the XMAS plan is together we can work with the board. In May and June the sales were down but July and August were good. 12 days of Aspen ACRA — Debbie Braun, director Julia Tyson, marketing; Erik Klanderud, membership; Julie Hardman 12 days of Aspen and the food and wine classic, Greg Fitzsimmons; communications Julie Hardman recapped last year's 12 days of Aspen event. Overall the event got great reviews. The ice skating and reindeer were a great hit. Nancy Lesley put in a supplemental for the carolers and Santa Clause. Julie Hardman said she did the event and hired an intern. There was ice skating for two days; reindeer two days and candy canes were handed out. We also had free carriage rides. Debbie said we allocated 15,000 for the event including $4,500 for the intern. Bill said the CCLC would have to hire someone to handle this event. Andrew felt the CCLC should take this on but we need to find additional funding in order to do it well. Debbie offered the CCLC to handle the event. Terry said the ACRA has employees already. Who on our committee would spear head it and give up two or three months to do this. COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 8, 2010 Debbie said she felt confrontation after the last year's meeting on this event. CCLC was disturbed about the brochure. Fred said last year went well and we want to make this better and we want to learn by our mistakes. If CCLC doesn't want to do it Nancy Lesley might take it on with her staff and probably hire someone. Andrew suggested we go to the city manager and get Nancy's funding from last year. Our goal should be $25,000. and we hire the right person. Front range blast, calendars etc. information on the 12 days would go out. Terry said you need someone to drive the event to help CCLC with this. Terry suggested a meeting with Nancy Lesley to discuss funding and the event etc. at our next meeting Sept. 15 MOTION: Bill moved to adjourn; second by Don. All in favor, motion carried.
