MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 2, 2011
Chairperson, Terry Butler called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Commissioners in attendance were: Bill Dinsmoor, Andrew Kole, Mark
Goodman and Fred Ayarza. Don Sheeley, John Starr and Mark Zitelli were
excused.
Staff: Kathy s Strickland, Chief Deputy Clerk
Agriculture meeting update:
Bill said the agriculture committee reviews all potential vendors and their
farms, green houses etc. It is not something that the CCLC needs or wants
to be involved with.
Terry mentioned that the agriculture vendors brought up an international
booth and the selling of nuts for the future.
Bill said we need a clear delineation on what is being sold on and off the
farm at the market.
Andrew said Santa Monica has two markets one six blocks of fruit and
vegetables intermixed with nuts. Some of the nuts sold are spiced and some
are hot. Nuts are a big hit and should be allowed in our market. The second
day is Sunday which is more of people hanging out and visiting friends.
Their market has waffles etc.
Fred said the market is always in need of eggs and fruit. The intemational
booth could be discussed at some point.
Terry said the agriculture vendors would like to start at 9:00 in 2012. Most
of them are up at three and it is quite difficult.
Andrew pointed out that people get to the market at 8:00.
Fred said he is not opposed to 8:30 and is willing to discuss it.
Kathy said we can do an e -mail in the middle of the market and see what
everyone wants.
Bill talked about plastic bottles. Most everyone has stainless steel bottles.
One of the issues is filling them up. San Francisco had water faucets to fill

them up. The City could install a fountain to fill up the bottles. Possibly
join in with advertising on bottles.
Bill said he was shocked about the $550,00. for the bike program. The is
only for 100 bikes. Bill said he would like to know if the City gave them
$35,000. Bill requested Mirte Mallory come to the next meeting and do a
power point on their program.
Bill suggested going to Mason and Morse and BJ Adams to promote the
stainless steel bottles. The market could hand them out and we could have a
sign indicating a fountain is available in city hall.
Terry asked the board about the XMAS season. Fred said it was a little
better than last year.
Andrew said XMAS was good and January was bad and down from last
year.
Bill reiterated Andrew's comments. XMAS is only ten days of business.
Andrew said the price of flight tickets is high.
Mark Goodman said December was descent. Gay Ski and Xgames were
weak for us. I suspect it is flush as last year.
Terry said she was full all January and February and March are full. She
accounts this with her interne outreach.
Bill said there is a place in France that has a great XMAS event. The ACRA
or someone should research that for the 12 days of Aspen.
Andrew said the ACRA has a budget. If we have a good idea maybe they
will increase it
Mark said our thing is perception and we are not marketing Aspen well; like
I love New York or what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Mark likes the
