The applicant should be informed that the granting of this encroachment does not give him a license to build or remodel the existing structure. The applicant must obtain a building permit before any work is started. • • • • • • --I: ... - -- . - -t- :: c>.;r . . - :.. ,,,..... -. ..._ .c• -...o„ .,...r.. gyitr.e:7it"a:.r r...,.. •a srt... +kr,!t3 . . 0 p • L / -1 t i t .• e ' f :41 • • December 13, 1979 City Council City of Aspen 130 South Galena St. Aspen, Colorado 81611• Dear Sirs: This letter is to apply for permission to rebuild an existing encroachment onto the alley attached to the Aspen Block Building and across from the Mountain Plaza Building, L. ' i.e. between Galena and Mill Streets and • ' " ' Hyman and Cooper Streets. The existing • I t -; I encroachment consists of a concrete slab E1 up to 9 inches above the alley level, .y measuring 34'4" X 4'8" with a cinder block structure on the slab designed to hold box ' trash from the tenants in the Aspen Block 7 Building. This structure is in poor'condi- -, r - yr tion and although it houses box trash it does not house any dumpsters for the which instead sit in the alley near Galena - Street. Our proposal is to lower the slab to alley level and build a new structure on the slab that would house two dumpsters and a box bin. The dumpsters and box bin would there- fore be screened from Galena Street and the dumpsters would sit behind a steel roller door. A drawing of the propo improvement is enclosed. The new improvement would not increase the size of the existing encroachment onto the alley but would be of identical size. ' We feel that the improvement would enhance the alley environment considerably in that area. • Instead of three open dumpsters standing next to the street and a box bin in a dilapidated • condition, there will be a new structure enclosing the dumpsters and box bin away from the street and shielding the trash from the pedestrian's view. It is hoped that only • • • 620 East Hyman Avenue • Aspen, Colorado 81611 • Telephone: (303) 925 -2122 336 Main Street, Suite 205 ;Grand Junctidh, Colorado 81501 • Telephone: (303) 245-4868 • •• O 0 • • Aspen City Council - -page 2-- i)eccmber 13, 1979 two dumpsters will be necessary to service the building instead of the current three, but if three dumpsters do turn out to be necessary, r ' the third dumpster will have to be placed out in the alley.
