HomeMy WebLinkAboutcoa.cclc.min.061511 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF JUNE 15, 2011 Chairperson, Andrew Kole called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners in attendance: Jim Pomeroy, Bill Dinsmoor, Fred Ayarza, Siam Castillo, Don Sheeley andTerry Butler. Staff: Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy Clerk Commissioner comments: Don said Torre is interested in music in Wagner Park and it will be called Sunset in Wagner Park and performers will be near the bathrooms either Friday or Saturday. Don also mentioned that the roundabout is not well presented for the entrance to Aspen. We should be able to plant flower and use Sister City flags. Bill also said the roundabout is hideous and it is a prominent entrance to town. Siam said the projection for the lighting is expensive and maybe we can have X gamers sponsor it. Ecobar — Andrew said Steve Barwick, city manager agreed to allow them out for the summer. Andrew went to the tenants on the mall and all the tenants like it. It has been deemed to be out there in the summer. They are grilling etc. and they have cleaned it up. Jim said everything is permanent at the site; the hours are off and they are mixing drinks. The mall lease needs to be rewritten. Kathy said the attorney is looking at the mall lease. Jim said Escobar is leaving stuff under the bar. Andrew said he will do a site visit. CCLC mentioned the Outside magazine weekend. The board requested Kathy find out how many heads are in beds and was it a success. Possibly get a report from the ACRA. 1 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF JUNE 15, 2011 Lighting Design Presentation Streeb Lacrouse Co. Kale Lacrouse presented Steve Barwick, City manager Councilpersons Steve Skadron and Derek Johnson Garrett Mandich, Chopu Construction Architect G.C. Andrew mentioned the three D projection lighting. At some point we can discuss costs etc. This is basically for Holiday seasonal lighting. Building Areas Tree lighting and build upon what we have. Andrew said with the strand lighting possibly we could do both malls. Bill said in Strasburg they see a million people at their XMAS event. Councilmen, Steve Skadron commented that the mountain use is exciting. Siam pointed out that this is the evolution of lighting. Councilmen Derek Johnson said he can see cleaning up some of the lighting but we don't want to take the character of the town away. Andrew suggested doing one mall. Derek said he like accenting some of the historic buildings. Steve liked the use of the mountain and protecting the town. Kale said there are three steps: 1 malls, 2 buildings and 3 projector systems. Andrew mentioned the use of the Elks bldg. Steve Skadron suggested discussing the idea with the art museum. Andrew said we thought a light show would bring heads in beds. 2 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF JUNE 15, 2011 Kale mentioned the schools and kids doing art and it being projected onto a building or the mountain. Terry said there are four weeks that we are empty and we need to gear up something. Steve Skadron said address "green" at the work session. Kale went over the projection system. Steve Barwick mentioned lighting the fountain. Steve Skadron suggested CCLC talk to Jim Markalunas and Heidi Zuckerman Jackobson. Steve also had concerns with the dark sky initiative. Garrett mentioned involving the school and the kids art programs.
