Staff: Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy Clerk Andrew went over the lighting work session. Kale from Lacrous Streeb and Randy Ready are trying to set up a meeting to determine the current budget for lights. By the end of the week we will know what their budget is. Andrew said it is doable and he thinks we will have three votes, Adam, Derek, Tore. Bill said we had no time to discuss individual owners lighting their own building with their own funding. My concern is that we bite off a little and we will never get a chance to do the entire thing. Andrew said he compares it to the Saturday market and we had one block and then another block each year. Bill said he wants individual buildings to do it. I would like to see the 12 days of Aspen and the lighting pulled together somehow. We need to add the XMAS market as a part of it. Andrew said we talked about lighting for four months. Don said we could incorporate the lighting like the Sardy House and turn on a switch for downtown. Terry said the lights need turned on early December. Andrew said someone would have to bring the game to the Ski Company. Comments: Andrew said the bike race has sold some sponsorship ride along for $20,000. Ski Co. was a bust on selling sponsorships. Rooms filled are at 42 %. Andrew said they have a contract with MBC sports and the city will get a lot of TV coverage. 1 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF AUGUST 3, 2011 Fred said it is good for the city and financially it is iffy in my mind. Andrew said they made two mistakes hiring the Ski Co. for advertising and they should have said it is a marketing play like a TV deal. Bill said he hopes the TV element is good for this. Don talked about mall leases and CCLC being the managing director and you still go to the liquor board. CCLC could be the final sign off on the stuff. Fred said it would be more consistency if CCLC was the top cop. Fred said we need to learn how to use Wagner Park. Andrew said Escobar is a huge success. They have had no problems. Fred said the couches are good and it looks good. Andrew asked the board if the market would sponsor $250 for a band in Wagner Park for a one time event "Sunset in Wagner ". Bill said the sunset sets over the water in Key West. This has no relationship with promoting the market. Don said this is a PR for the Saturday Market. Kathy said we could have a non - profit selling the Aspen Tap. Andrew said maybe the Friday before the bike thing. Mitzi can send out advertising. Fred said I am in favor of an event at Wagner. MOTION: Andrew moved to approve $250 for the Saturday Market for the band in Wagner Park; second by Don. Motion carried 5 -1. Bill voted no. 2 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF AUGUST 3, 2011 Don requested support of this board for flowers at the roundabout and signage.
