HomeMy WebLinkAboutcoa.Herron Park History NAME: Herron Park ADDRESS: Neal St. LEGAL DESCRIPTION: A tract of land located in the South East ¼ of the South th West ¼ of Section 7, Township 10 South, Range 84 West of the 6 P.M. and being part of the East Aspen Townsite. DATE PURCHASED: Donated in 1964 HOW FUNDED: Donation LEGISLATION: Resolution #10 in 1967 and Resolution #13 in 1968, DEED: quit claim deed, Book 192 pg. 324, Reception #110589 and Book 165 pg. 14, Reception #89287. Herron Park is approximately 3 acres located at the base of the Neal Avenue Bridge. It is a beautiful Park where children can play in the river or on the huge playscape. It is a favorite place for outdoor gatherings. Legal and lawful right of this land belonged to John L. Herron when he quit claimed the land into the city in 1964. In 1967 Judge Fulghum declared the city the owner in fee simple of this property. In 1967 by resolution the land was permanently dedicated and set aside for use by the public for park and recreation purposes and called “Neal Avenue Park”. The park was renamed “John Herron Park” in 1968 in honor of same in respect and appreciation for his devotion and dedication to the development and growth of our community. John Herron was inducted into the Aspen Hall of Fame in 1991. The island was acquired through the Creektree Subdivision in 1977.
