Rio Grande Park is divided into site A, the park north of the bike trail, and site B,
the field, recycling site, and basketball court. In 1993 P & Z and Council
approved the master plan as a conceptual plan for the park. This plan requires
any additional development in the Rio Grande Park to be reviewed as a final
SPA review. P&Z recommended approval of this SPA plan to Council. Council
adopted Ordinance #14, Series of 2000, the building of the Skateboard Park and
relocation of the existing basketball court, on the second reading. The Grand
Opening of the Rio Grande Skateboard Park was on June 9, 2000 at noon.
