Absent were Terry Butler, Andrew Kole, Don Sheeley and Riley Tippet. Mall summer lighting Kale Lacroux, Lacrouxstreeb lighting design Siam said the fire works for the 4th of July were cancelled due to fire danger. It would be great if we could get the lighting in place and use the down lighting for fireworks etc. That should be mentioned at the work session in August. Kale also pointed out that the fire works and the noise cause pollution. The lighting would be a great alternative. Kale said he did a site visit last week on the Hyman mall and looked at Finbarr's and Escobar's and the Cooper Ave. Kale said the intent would be to have a cohesive alfresco dining experience and also have lighting on the Hyman mall for people to experience at night while sitting on the benches. Kale said Finbarr's and Escobar's are both using city power. That area is in need of development. The power is coming off the light polls and it is inadequate and a hazard. There are wires in the streams. Kids play in that stream. The bigger need is to redo the infill structure which is a big issue. Someone is going to get electrocuted. The base of the light polls has the electricity and the lines are hidden in the ditches. The wiring needs to be done properly. Kale said he will propose a design element and materials. We will use the existing wiring in place. The easiest and most cost effective is stranding very thin air craft cable across the area from Finbarr's to Escobar parallel. We would string the lights to the cable. The lighting can be changed to reflect each restaurant or you can use one solid white light. The lights would then cross north to south. The air craft cables give us something to attach the lights to. There are many decorative elements that can be attached to the cables. We can use different colors for each of the restaurants and we can also look at something that has down lighting. 1 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF JULY 18, 2012 There are already existing lights that are on the trees and most of those aren't working. We can also use some of the existing wiring for down lighting. Finbarr's has orange umbrellas and Escobar has red umbrellas. We could light underneath the umbrella. Kiki said businesses are careless of things that they don't own in and when the lights are taken down under the umbrellas they will be damaged. Kiki asked about solar. Kale said it is tricky and when the storms come in you don't build up enough charge. They are also very expensive. Kale said the idea is energy efficiency and clean energy. Why do we have 70 watt light bulbs. We reduced the electricity on the clock tower by 75 %. Bill said continuity is important. Siam and Kiki said all lighting (white ) should match. Siam asked how much is going to be used from XMAS? Kale said everything that was done from last year will remain for this year.
