MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 5 2012
Vice-chair, Don Sheeley called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners
in attendance: Riley Tippet, Terry Butler, Kiki Raj and Siam Castillo. Andrew
Kole was absent.
Don explained that the lighting will occur on the mall next year and the Parks
Department will be doing the installation.
MOTION: Siam moved to approve the minutes of August 15th; second by Kiki.
All in favor, motion carried.
Don requested that staff schedule the CCLC interviews for Fred Ayarza's
resignation.
Riley said at Mayors discussion it was brought out that change becomes a
compromise of new and old.
Real estate signs. Don said he talked to real estate members and none had issues of
changing the size of the signs. Architects and builders also put up large signs and
it should be uniform across the board.
Siam said she feels the signs are quit large. Siam suggested tabling until the next
meeting so she can observe throughout town the different signage.
Kathy pointed out that there are different rules for construction etc.
Riley said he doesn't feel the 2 x 3 signage is followed.
Don said he doesn't like to see for rent signs all down the blocks.
Bill said this doesn't make the signs go away.
Don said when tourist come in town it is not appropriate to see the town full of for
sale signs.
Riley said maybe the real estate commission can do this on their own.
Bill said maybe we can get them to come to our next meeting and discuss this.

Don said he also has construction sign code issues.
Bike race.
Bill said he would like to see an audit of the bike race.
Don said he didn't like the vendors all around Paepcke Park.
Bill said if the state owned the bike race it would be better for Aspen and other
cities. What if the person putting it on quite? Who would take over the bike race?
Kiki said all the businesses in the core did not make anything.
Terry said she didn't talk to anyone that thought the race benefited the town.
Riley said there needs to be checks and balances so the race can maintain itself.
I'm sure Aspen got a lot of PR.
Terry pointed out that Strange Imports loves the market. Terry also said her clients
go to Escobar and it has activity from 4:00 on. It is good for our malls.
Saturday market
Riley suggested that we somehow get cooking demonstrations back in the market.
Kathy said we could look at a children's activity booth for next year. A woman
called and wants to do painted canvas.
Bill reminded staff to send out an e-mail to the vendors for input for next year.
Don said for the next meeting he will invite a few brokers and we can go over the
regulations.
MOTION: Siam moved to adjourn; second by Kiki. All in favor, motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
