Herron at the time when he quit claimed to the City of Aspen by his deed of January 6 , 1964 . Judge Carl W. Fulghum, April 10 , 1967 , declared that "tile City of Aspen, a municipal corporation , is the owner in fee simple and in possession of the following descr-bed real estate property and premises situate in the County of Pitkin and the State of Colorado , to wit : Tract C A tract of land located in the South East 1/4 of the South West 1/4 of Section 7 , Township 10 South, Range 84 West of the 6th P. M. and being part of the East Aspen Townsite . " By resolution the land was permanently dedicated and set aside for use by the public for park and recreation purposes and entitled Neal Avenue Park on June 19 , 1967 . By resolution it was renamed "John Herron Park" on July 1 , 1968 , in honor of John Herron, in respect and appreciation for his devotion and dedication to the develop- ment and growth of our community.
