We estimate that the cost of the park would be approximately $18, 000. Fonda will have Georgeann' s graphic layout to show Council this Monday. Lois will have the status of our park dedication funds. PSM/pm Y ` O THE ASPEN CI']'Y COUNCIL We the undersigned live on or near the Trian-1e Park in the West End of Aspen and we object to the plans for the park for the followinn reasons: 1 ) No one in the neighborhood was informed that such elaborate plans were in the works. When a citizen wants a zoning change or variance, he must solicit the opinions of his nei-hbors. We believe that our opinions should have been solicited about the city' s plans to drastically alter the triangle. 2) We believe that the x$20, 000 allocated for Triangle Park will be ill-spent unless the Council' s 1976 '010, 000 irrigation ditch allocation is used immediately to put the ditches in our neighborhood in working order. Restoration of the ditches and preservation of the irreplaceable cottonwood trees is our first priority and should be the first priority of the city Parks Department and the PARKS association and CitIT Council. 3)A children' s playground in a neighborhood where there are virtually no small children will invite additional traffic when the city is makin'- every effort to reduce traffic. ¢) The structures planned for theplaymround are not harmonious additions to this Victorian neighborhood. 5) Lhe plan will convert serene and lovely open space to a busy playground, which we feel is an inappropriate use in a residential neighborhood. Originally, as old maps show, the triangle was a public square. Subse- quently, it was owned by Mrs. William Shaw. Throughout that time, it has been used and enjoyed as it is, by people of all ages. We petition the council to leave it as it is -- open, serene, compatible, and. perfect. idtlIIE ADDRESS ti 3ol IdA &,WfA ' TO THE ASPEN CITY COUNCIL TRIANGLE PARK PANS aa-e 2 NAME ADDRESS cl ,-Auld 70( 41"Li 4;U/71e r f, (J \\ n 1 2z o 10 mI7Z ASPEN CITY COUNCIL We the under.signed live on or near the r?rianr le Par'- in the -,,Test End of ':s, en and we object to -,he plans for the park for the following reasons: 1 ) No one in the neighborhood was informed that such elaborate plans were in the t,orks. pThen a citizen wants a zonin!T chan7e or variance, he must solicit the opinions of his nei,;hbors. ;e believe that Our. opinions should have been solicited about the city's plans to Bras ticall; alter -the trian.-le. 2} ,e believe that the : 20,OOO allocated for -rian,-le Pdrk will be ill-spent unless the Council' s 1976 ,,10, 000 irrigation ditch allocation is use.d i:media.tely to put the ditches in our neighborhood in working order. 2estoration of the ditches and preservation of the irreplaceable cottonwood trees is our firs-,• r---i o r i tv and should bD the first priority of the ci,,"- Parks Department and the PARRS association and Cit;;- Counc i i. 3)= children I s pla; ~roue:=, in a nei, rhborho:,d where there are virtually no small children will invite additional traffic %ihc_ the cit-.r is rri ':in,- every of fort to reduce traffic. 4) she structures planned for the play^;round are no-'L, harmonious addition; to this Vic-,orian neinhbo.rhoou. 5) The ula_n will convert serene an ll love 1-7 cen space to a bush May-round, which we feel is an in! napnroriato use in a residential neighborhood.
