HomeMy WebLinkAboutcoa.cclc.min.112013 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 20 2013 Vice-chair, Riley Tippet called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners in attendance: Bill Dinsmoor, Terry Butler and Kiki Raj. Absent were Hanna Pevny, Siam Castillo, Don Sheeley and Fred Ayarza. Staff. Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy Clerk MOTION: Kiki moved to approve the minutes of November 6" second by Terry. All in favor, motion carried. Bill said he met with the Mayor and restaurant owners and all the restaurant businesses are concerned about the off season. Maybe we should invest in an economist to evaluate the off season and how awful off-season was this year. They are also concerned about XMAS. The businesses were all for doing something in December but they didn't know what that would be. Bill said in December and June we should be able to attract dynamic visitors. June's weather is much more approachable. 12 Days of Aspen Riley said he met with Julie and they are limited by the budget and there is not enough help. Riley said we should go forward with lighting of XMAS children tree Dec 1 st followed by the Sardy House tree lighting. We could announce that the tree will be lit up all winter and come see the children's ornaments. Saturday market Bill said it is mandatory that your booth be open for every market. Kathy should announce for everyone to see the new applications. Bill said all business frontages that apply will have right of first refusal. Riley asked staff to follow through with an ad in the paper on the 12 days of Aspen. Kathy said Mitzi handles the paper and I'm sure she will put something in the paper.
