HomeMy WebLinkAboutordinance.council.B-40Ordinance B-40 MAYOR'S COURT Section 1. The Mayor's Court of the City of Aspen is hereby created, which shall be resided over by the Mayor, or in his absence. the City Marshal, and shall have jurisdiction to hear, try, and determine all cases arising under any traffic violation in the City of Aspen. Section 2. The Mayor, or in his absence, the City Marshal, shall have full power and authority to make and adopt rules and regulations for conducting the business of his said court, the punishment of contempt, and enforcing all orders of court. Section 3. Every operator of a motor vehicle who violates any of the traffic regulations of the City of Aspen, upon receiving a traffic violation ticket therefor, may surrender to the Mayor's Court said ticket within 3 days after issuance and submit to the following provisions by paying penalties provided herein: Reckless driving -- $2.00 Running thru stop sign -- $1.00 Illegal parking -- $1.00 Defective lights -- $1.00 U turn in center of block -- $1.00 Driving at a greater rate of speed than 30 miles per hour in the residence district, and 20 miles per hour in the business district, first offense, #3.00, second offense $5.00 Driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquors, $5.00 Any other traffic violations, not less than $1.00 nor more than $5.00, at the discretion of the Mayor, or in his absence, the City Marshal. Section 4. Appeals may he taken from all judgments of said Mayor's Court to the Police Court of the City of Aspen where the case shall be tried de novo. Section 5. All other ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, be, and the same are hereby repealed. Passed and approved this 30 day of November. A. D., 1940.
