Mayor Torre said that Comcast channel 11 is not broadcasting, but the council meeting will be shown on HD channel 881 this evening. SCHEDULED PUBLIC APPEARANCES: Mayor Torre announced the Historic Preservation Awards. He said it is Historic Preservation month. The 2020/2021 award winners are: 124 West Hallam, 301 East Hopkins, 223 E Hallam, and 541 Race Alley. He also announced the winner of the Elizabeth Paepcke award as being Ann Mullins. She has made many important contributions to Historic Preservation as well as been a great leader in local and state level discussions regarding preservation. Councilor Mullins thanked everyone and said it was so unexpected. She said she is so invested in Historic Preservation and this means so much to her. She has really enjoyed working with Amy Simon over the years on all projects. Mayor Torre thanked Ann for all of her historic expertise. Ms. Simon said this is a preview of what we want to present in person in August and thanked Councilor Mullins for all of her contributions. CITIZEN COMMENTS: Peter Fornell thanked Ann for her work with Historic Preservation. We will continue to see your presence in this area, and he appreciates all she has done in preservation for the community. COUNCIL COMMENTS: Councilor Hauenstein thanked Ann for all she does. He said we will have a 4th of July this year and have a stationary parade. Number one is safety and we do not want this to be a super spreader event. There will be a kid’s zone at the ice garden in the early part of the day and yoga at the Red Brick. There will be a kid’s bike parade as well. He shared the street closures on screen. AVSC will hold their annual picnic in the park as well. Belly Up will be having a concert at the Music Tent and there will be no charge for this. Councilor Mullins said the parade got a bit convoluted over the years with no real theme, so this year, we are bringing it back to the real basics. This is about coming out of the pandemic and really doing things that are most important and celebrating families, etc. Mayor Torre said if there are members of the public that have some great ideas, please reach out to Ward or Ann as they are on the 4th of July committee. He said he is really looking forward to it and the hometown feeling. Councilor Mesirow said he appreciates the focus on community. He congratulated Ann on her award. He said APCHA held a special meeting today where they signed an agreement with the Mulcahy family. Everyone was supportive of this and has provided an opportunity to put years of difficulty behind us. This provides a clean slate moment after a lot of hard work was involved. Onwards we go. Councilor Mullins said she is somewhat speechless, and she thanked Skippy for sharing that and thanked the Mulcahy family. Page 1 /3
