Kids First Advisory Board Meeting Minutes Friday, April 8, 2022 – 11:30 AM In attendance: Stefan Reveal, Chad Schmit, Beth Cashdan, Rebecca Paschal, Jessica Garrow, Matt Zubrod, Sue Way, Diane Foster, Megan Monaghan, Nancy Nichols DESIRED OUTCOMES: ● March minutes– minutes not approved, tabled for the May meeting. ● RFP for Yellow Brick childcare operator – Request for Proposals (RFP) will be updated and sent out again on Bidnet. ● Approve quality improvement funding grants 2022 – Kids First Advisory Board reviewed the following grant applications: Aspen School District - $3,280 There was discussion about ECE 101 and 103, these classes are offered for no charge, paid for by the state, adjustments will be made under Workforce. There will be more discussion about materials and if some of these items have already been purchased with Darilynn. Kids First staff will work with Aspen School District to adjust grant. ➢ Rebecca moved to approve the Aspen School District application up to $3,280 with clarification and changes approved by Kids First Staff. Chad seconded, MPU. Wildwood - $10,534 Discussion again about ECE 103. Discussion about carpet bid and matching split between Wildwood and Kids First, it was agreed that a 50/50 split for carpet would be preferred. ➢ Jessica moved to approve the Wildwood application up to $10,534 with a 50/50 split adjustment for the carpet expense and a reduction of the grant accordingly. Stefan seconded, MPU. Kids First Advisory Board would like to set a policy for future requests and agree upon terms for splitting costs when programs ask for capital or structure items. This will be a topic at a future meeting. Early Learning Center $17,337 Discussion about classes ECE 101 and 103. Asking for more details on the Family Partnership certification $1,000, clarification on how many meetings, asking for more specifics. ➢ Sue moved to approve the Early Learning Center grant up to $17,337, with discussion and clarification with Kids First staff. Beth seconded, MPU. Growing Years $11,316.22 Discussion about ECE 101, also grant policy is that reimbursement for the conference is up to $500 per person, this grant has expenses for 3 people over $500, funding will be for the $500, and the grant will be reduced by those amounts. ➢ Chad moved to approve Growing Years grant up to $11,316.22 with discussion, adjustments, and clarification with Kids First Staff, Beth seconded, MPU. ● Professional Development for teachers at programs who are level 1 and 2 Shirley asked that the Kids First Advisory Board discuss the possibility of offering professional development reimbursement to teachers in programs that are currently rated Colorado Shines level 1 or 2. The Board would like to hear more from Shirley and continue the discussion at the next Kids First Advisory Board meeting – No decision was made. ● Understanding Yellow Brick Building next steps – Nancy shared with the Kids First Advisory Board an overview of the upcoming repairs and maintenance items for 2022 and for the capital projects in 2023. Diane shared that there was not any response to the RFP for a program to operate at the Yellow Brick when rooms 4,5 and 6 are vacant. A new RFP will be issued, Diane, Sara Ott and the Kids First staff are discussing some additional ideas to assist and motivate people to apply. ● Update from Diane Diane shared a few updates with the Kids First Advisory Board Diane, Nancy, Kadi Kuhlenberg, Kelly Beal, Dusty Springstead and Patti Clapper had a meeting to discuss the childcare developments happening in the Roaring Fork Valley. It was great to have Patti, a Pitkin County Commissioner, in attendance to hear more about childcare in the valley so she can share information with the Pitkin County Commissioners. Burlingame planning is moving forward as planned, as well as the CMC Infant room. ● Financial aid application for 2022 No changes are being made to the 2022 Financial Aid application, no board discussion.
