HomeMy WebLinkAboutcoa.cclc.min.071614 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF JULY 16, 2014 Vice-chair, Riley Tippet called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners in attendance: Fred Ayarza, Terry Butler, Riley Tippet, Kiki Raj, Bill Dinsmoor and Siam Castillo. Absent were Don Sheeley and Hana Pevny. MOTION: Fred made the motion to approve the minutes of July 2, 2014 second by Siam. All in favor, motion carried. Dan Nelson, Parks said this is a slow week before events: Arts Crush, Ride for the Cure, Ducky Derby, Mother Lode and then the bike race. Dan said Wagner Park will be dug up for sodding in August. A pipe will be installed east to west for drainage. Dan said the bridge is being built on the Hyman Ave. mall for the south side in order to get from one side of the mall to the other. Terry mentioned the round-about and the need for more appropriate flowers. Kathy mentioned that the Mayor is requesting more wild flowers be planted at the round-about. Dan said it will be a three tier planting at the round-about. Bill said there are a lot of perennials out there that would work. Bill said there is a protective strip over the bricks on the mall and the wires were out of the strip on the Hyman mall. Mall and outside dining Riley asked what is the overall goal of outside dining. Terry said we need to decide sizes Evening excitement How vibrant do we want it. Fred said some are more aggressive for lunch and dinner. Kathy asked what the dimensions are for the center. 1 COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MINUTES OF JULY 16, 2014 Riley said there is 32 feet on one end and 37 feet on the other end. Bill asked what the average square footage is for a four top is. Kathy to check with Engineering. What is the maximum occupancy for the center?. Bill said we need to talk about the goal. We need a summertime experience to make it exciting. Public spaces area for the benefit of our guests. Siam said she feels Hops is out of balance. We need to balance the center. We need the same amount of square footage and density seating for the center of the Hyman mall. Bill said public space should not be used for storage. This is a public space. Get tables and chairs out per the mall lease for the public to use. Riley said set up is 9:00 a.m. for the public to use. Kathy said the clerk's office is working on an infraction paper. Bill said possibly do fewer restaurants in the center. Each server can handle 15 to 20 people per sitting. Bill said if your address is on the mall you should be able to apply for outside mall seating. Kiki suggested a three year lease because tables and chairs need to be purchased etc. Riley asked if it is legal to auction off public space? Can one sell a mall lease if someone wants to sell it. Another idea would be a lottery CCLC could pick the appropriate restaurants Another idea would be bidding for the space Bill said longevity as a business is what we want to encourage. How are we going to weight things out. What is valuable and best for the guest?
