North Street Aspen, CO 81611 Facilitator: Wendy Huber History & Background: Kids First began in 1990 and is funded by a dedicated sales tax in the City of Aspen. That tax is .45% and supports affordable housing and childcare. This amounts to less than half a penny for every dollar spent in Aspen. Childcare receives a portion of this tax fund. The tax has been renewed 3 times by the voters and is in place until 2038. Kids First is a department of the City of Aspen. We are able to provide services, programming, and support that is unique across the county! Kids First staff can answer questions, refer you to specialists, and put you in contact with resources in our community. We have a community based advisory board that helps us respond to community needs and makes recommendations to the Aspen City Council. I. Welcome & Opening Comments/ Housekeeping A. Retreat Objectives 1. Gain an understanding of Kids First programs and activities 2. Prioritize projects/ programs for next 3-5 years 3. Agree on Advisory board expectations 1. To understand one another better—understanding differences and similarities regarding interpersonal style, perceptions of one another & what each of us wants and need to do for the betterment of the organization 2. To develop commitment to common goals, to improve communication within the team and to clarify roles of team members B. Ground Rules 1. One person speaks at a time 2. Listen to understand & pay attention to how the team is working 3. Honor a diversity of opinions & respect the differences of others 4. Speak your truth 5. Others? C.
