HomeMy WebLinkAboutcoa.cclc.min.082014 Commercial Core & Lodging Commission Minutes of August 20, 2014 Vice-chair, Riley Tippet called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Commissioners in attendance were: Bill Dinsmoor, Terry Butler and Fred Ayarza. Don Sheeley, Siam Castillo and Kiki Raj were absent. Staff. Kathy Strickland, Chief Deputy Clerk MOTION: Fred moved to approve the minutes of August 6t' second by Bill. All in favor, motion carried. Doug Kidder, ACRA representative for the restaurant association. Doug said people came to him regarding the mall leases etc. wanting information. Doug said he sent out five questions to restaurant owners regarding the mall leases. Who should be eligible for a mall lease. Should it be food establishments only. Should it only be establishments with addresses on the mall. How long should leases be for. Are the mall leases too dense. Doug said he hasn't gotten any feedback yet. The next step will be calling the individuals. Individuals want to complain but they don't want to be part of the solution. Riley suggested having restaurants owners and managers come to the next meeting. Riley identified the issues. Who is accepted. How long is the lease. What is the cost. Lighting, rain protection. Bill mentioned the city purchasing the tents etc. 11Page Commercial Core & Lodging Commission Minutes of August 20, 2014 Riley said what do you need to be financially successful in the center of the malls. Doug also mentioned that a business proposal should be submitted. Bill said we need to do a walk around to the restaurants on the mall and remind them of the meeting in September. Terry mentioned that the Saturday market almost self-selects itself. Doug said it is important to get the retail on the mall involved. CCLC needs to do outreach to the retail and inform them of what is going on. Commissioner comments Terry mentioned two parking spaces in front of her hotel and she is getting tickets. She is asking CCLC for her support. People are coming into town and unloading. Downtown is very congested. Terry asked what kind of process does aspen go through to regarding topping of trees and trimming it. Riley said the arborist evaluated the trees. There is also a tree replacement program. Bill mentioned the science center for the old art museum. Bill also mentioned having the new special event permit coordinator come to September 17th meeting. Bill also mentioned the loss of parking in town with the art museum, construction etc. Fred said the idea of the Winter Market is not dead.
