WORK SESSION DISCUSSION SUMMARY: In response to direction received from Council at the
October 4, 2022 budget work session, staff presented a high level summary of options to accelerate
the implementation of the Aspen Sustainability Action Plan (ASAP) to Council. The summary
included a background and greenhouse gas and cost analysis for several high impact projects in the
areas of the built environment, transportation, and waste. These projects were identified by staff as
important foundational projects to act as a catalyst to reduce in greenhouse gas emissions. The
purpose of the work session presentation was to provide Council with information to take into their
goal setting session later in May 2023.
On the accelerated options as a whole, Council provided insights, ideas, and suggestions for specific
areas, and council members asked questions about policy and program details. Some questions
were answered in the meeting and additional information will be provided at future work sessions
and/or in upcoming informational memos.
NEXT STEPS: The Climate Action team will continue to work on areas of greenhouse gas
reductions in the Aspen Sustainability Action Plan and remain available to support the goals that
come out of Council’s 2023 2-year goal setting session.
