MINUTES OF JUNE 5~ 2002
Chairperson, Bill Dinsmoor called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Commissioners present: Charles Kennedy, Andrew Kole, Jon Busch, Eric
Cohen and John Stax. Terry Butler was excused.
ASPEN SATURDAY MARKET
Larry Thoreson, finance dept. went over the issues regarding sales tax
collection. The produce vendors all have individual business licenses for
$150. each and they are all filing their own sales taxes; 6.4 % goes to the
State of Colo. and 2.2% goes to the City of Aspen.
Larry suggested that the sales tax be collected monthly for the CCLC
booths. The CCLC booths can have several individuals under one business
license. Aspen businesses in the City do not have to pay for an additional
license. Those existing businesses elsewhere need to purchase a City of
Aspen business license.
Barry Gordon went over Taste of Aspen. He explained that the food will be
prepared off-site and brought to the market. Each week there will be a
different chef doing a cooking demonstration. The food Will be cold. There
will be a question and answer session. A floral display will be on the table
and a drawing taken place for the floral arrangement. Next year they intend
to sell recipe books and a calendar. The event will start at 10:00 a.m. and
last an hour.
The board went over the Saturday market applicants.
1. Cloud Cover- Claudia Cunningham- straw hats
2. Stitch works - hand crafted pillows etc. - Mariam Rossner
3. Thunderbowl Market and Deli - Bread - The product competes with
an existing vendor in the market. Bill will meet with Jack Dorio
regarding competing products.
4. Aspen Potters - Gail Price - Objected to competing potters from the
valley. Gail requested that Aspen Potters be the only Potter allowed
in the Saturday Market. The board was opposed to the request.
5. Colo. Rocky Mtn. Winery - Kevin Doyle - The product competes
with an existing vendor in the market and this will have to be
discussed with Jack.

6. Allegheny Meadows - pottery
7. Globalware Susan Bilenker -jewelry cotton backpacks. She is also
selling jewelry for Hot Mama's.
8. Heidi Hat - polar fleece hat sets and yoga shorts - Heidi Wade.
9. Grace Stahlschmidt, artist - "Plain Air Painters" painted cards,
scarves etc. She will also do demonstrations.
10.Alena Gauba - handmade jewelry.
11.Marilyn Buchanan - handmade chocolate turtles.
12.Massage and beadwork - Judy Norman and Joanne Walpole
13.Kimberly' s NatUrals - cookies free of wheat, dairy and egg.
14.Erika Corbin - Australian shirts. The board discuSsed whether the
shirts qualify because they are manufactured in Indonesia. The shirts
are designed by Erika. The company name is ETC, everything casual.
John Starr made the motion to accept Erika's products; second by
Bill. MOtion denied 3-2.
Yes vote: Bill and John. No vote: Jon, Charles, Eric.
15. Seth - Animal Shelter
The produce is coming the 15th and the CCLC vendors are coming the
COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Andrew said he went to the ACRA board meeting and John Sarpa suggested
that the CCLC arrange a presentation to the marketing committee of our
position because he hasn't heard of it. On the 18th they are starting to work
with the city on their neW plan. Andrew said John would vote for
representation of the CCLC on the marketing committee.
John suggested that Bill contact John Sarpa and in two weeks the board can
decide who will represent the CCLC and how the presentation Will be
handled.
John also requested that in the furore the ACRA come to CCLC to present
their Food and Wine plan.
MOTION: Bill moved to adjourn; second by John. All in favor, motion
carried 6-0.
Meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
