Kids First Advisory Board Meeting
Tuesday July 18th 11:15am-12:45pm

In atendance: Jessica Garrow, Logan Hood, Nancy Nichols, Megan Monaghan
Mee�ng Minutes from June 7th, 2023 were not approved. Kids First Staff will email minutes to
Kids First Advisory Board members for approval to be completed via email.
7/25/2023 June 7th Mee�ng minutes were approved via email vote and response. Minutes
Approved.
Welcome new Board Member – Sara Lowe
Board Members Chad Schmit and Sue Way have both completed their applica�on to extend
their Board terms. They will be interviewed by City Council during a future City Council Work
Session.
Compass Plan Overview
Megan reviewed the slide presenta�on of the Kids First Compass Plan/Goals. These goals will be
presented to Agency Directors Team (ADT) on August 23rd and to City Council in October. Along
with the Compass Plan/Goals Kids First will present the 2024 Budget.
The Kids First Compass Plan/Goals Include:
• Sustain exis�ng and new childcare programs to support and inform capacity needs for
families in the community.
• Strengthen Early Childhood workforce recruitment and reten�on.
• Ensure Kids First City of Aspen resources have maximum posi�ve impact.
• Set direc�on for Kids First under new leadership.
Burlingame Update:
Two open houses are scheduled for this week.

Wednesday July 19th 5pm at Burlingame Commons Building
Lumberyard ECE plan:
Megan reported that the new Lumberyard project includes a designated space for a Childcare Facility
however there are no current plans for this space and planning for the space will not be included in the
City of Aspen’s current development planning. Kids First staff will con�nue to check in with City
Management and seek addi�onal direc�on regularly.
Director Development, Presenta�ons, and school visits:
The Kids First Staff is working on the coordina�on and implementa�on of a leadership program for both
childcare directors and staff. The 2024 Budget will include funding to begin focused work on offering
leadership programming for childcare staff. The goal will include preparing for the future with strong
leadership in Early Childhood Educa�on careers.
Kids First staff will begin working and coordina�ng a school tour and ask childcare directors to come to a
Kids First Advisory Board mee�ng and introduce themselves and their programs. This will be an
opportunity for current board members to hear from each Director.
Kids First Advisory Board Mee�ng will be on the Third Tuesday of the month
from 11:15am un�l 12:45pm

August 5th – Tuesday
September 19th – Tu esday
October 17th – Tuesday
November 21 – Tuesday
December 19th – Tuesday (tenta�ve depending on the holiday plan)
