HomeMy WebLinkAboutminutes.gab.091223 GOLF ADVISORY COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 12, 2023 MINUTES 1. The meeting began at 10:00 as scheduled. Those attending were Jeff Sivess, Ted Greene, Charlie Weaver, Jim Schanzenbaker, Jered Day, Jim Pratt, Andrew Firman, nd Dominic Lanese. 2. The agenda and minutes were approved as presented. 3. Public Comments. Thanks were expressed to Dom for condition of the course and for the trash can at hole #12. 4. Junior Golf. There is a new after school program which is very popular. Great idea. Next year there will be 11 weeks of golf camp. It will include tennis and golf. Charlie expressed special thanks to Brian and Jack as well as Jim and Andrew and their Crew. Junior golf is in good financial shape. THANK YOU CHARLIE! Even without the usual PGA pros the fundraiser did very well due to lower expenses. Dave Amory was thanked for his help. 5. Superintendent Report. May 5th opening day was very late but season was very successful thanks to hard work by the crew. Many crew members are long term and dependable. Fall work is under way with shorter and cooler days. Aerification has been done and water system will be blown out Additional aerification will be done in the spring. THANKS DOM! 6. Head Professional Report. Andrew reports a smooth year. Staff is still working both inside and outside. Merchandise sales are up 13% in spite of supply problems and shortage of golf balls. There will be new Callaway rental clubs next year. Budget for 2024 is $250,000. May try new lines. They will reassess for next year. Closing tournament will be October 1 and a Hospitality Tournament will be October 3. Course will open late. Rich Phelps will visit October 20 at 11:00 to look at the work on #4 & 17 and the pond. Work is being discussed about improving the tennis courts including how to manage the roots. Petra has done well. She provides housing for her people! There will be a new software system operational after pass sales. 7. Men’s Association. There are 210 members. Over 65 play each week. Ryder Cup will be at RVR September 23 with Andrew. 8. General Manager Report. The City Manager has agreed to a year round superintendent. No need council approval October 17. Meeting is open to the public. Restaurant lease has been renewed. Instruction lease is next. 9. Old Business. Visual signs added at #7, 10 and 15. 10. New Business. Cottonwoods between #12 green and #13 tee are old and dying. Need work. Next meeting will be Tuesday, October 10. 10:00 a.m.
