HomeMy WebLinkAboutminutes.cclc.030624 1 REGULAR MEETING COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MARCH 6TH, 2024 Chairperson Cunniffe called the meeting to order at 8:40 a.m. Commissioners present: Kiki Raj, Jeb Ball, Angi Wang, Amanda Tanaka, Stephanie Davis, Terry Butler. Absent were Noemi Kiss-Baldwin, Charles Cunniffe, and Bill Dinsmoor Staff present: Nicole Henning, City Clerk Emmy Oliver, Downtown Services Other Attendees: Alycin Bektesh, ACRA Commissioner Comments: Ms. Davis said she is concerned about vagrancy in town. She has been approached by businesses regarding stealing, panhandling, and screaming. The people don’t want to say anything publicly. Two members of the police department have talked to her and said the police officers are disgruntled because the city doesn’t do anything about it. She said Jim True and Brooke Peterson just dismiss the cases. There are trespass issues. She says these people are violent. She said she is not going to stop talking about it. Ms. Tanaka said Snowmass does a kind dinner group to create a sense of community. She suggested a community task force. Mr. Ball said it’s a perfect opportunity to have conversations with their blocks and report back. Then they will be dealing with data and not emotion. Ms. Raj said she hasn’t heard the same things as Stephanie. They all agreed they will talk to their blocks and get more information. Ms. Butler spoke about the Venezuelans in Carbondale. She said the government is bending over backwards to help these people. Mr. Ball handed out the block captain map to the group. Mr. Ball motioned to approve the minutes; Ms. Raj seconded. All in favor, motion carried. The group came up with questions to ask the businesses for the block captain project. Ms. Bektesh spoke about empowering people to make public comment. She said they are feeling intimidated. Mr. Ball suggested that Ms. Henning be the keeper of this contact list for the block captains. Ms. Davis said she will create the document and send to Ms. Henning to be the editor. Ms. Tanaka suggested April 17th as the date to have all data turned in. The board discussed the memo for council and Ms. Tanaka said she is happy to write it. They decided to include information on the block captain project, the Aspen Saturday Market, supporting ACRA on creating an opportunity for the businesses to have more of a voice, alley cleanup twice a year. CCLC will help communicate with the alley businesses, etc. 2 REGULAR MEETING COMMERCIAL CORE & LODGING COMMISSION MARCH 6TH, 2024 The board also expressed interested in helping ACRA make Winterskol better this next year.
