HomeMy WebLinkAboutminutes.council.19970324Asoen City Council Regular Meetin~ March 24, 1997 Mayor Bennett called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. with Councilmembers Paulson, Waggaman, Richards and Marolt present. CITIZEN COMMENTS 1. Laura Clausen, representing Project Graduation, told Council all money for this events is raised from parents and business donations. Last year there was 100 percent attendance. Ms. Clausen told Council 32 out of 70 seniors are on the National Honor Association this year. Ms. Clausen asked for $1,000 for this event. This year' s class is 35 percent larger than 1996. Councilwoman Waggaman said she would like this request to be part of the grant budget process. Mayor Bennett said he would like to contribute to this event and asked the staff to research how much has been given in the past and propose an amount to Council. COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS 1. Councilwoman Richards told Council last week she and city manager Margerum attended the annual CAST dinner with state legislators. About 35 legislators attended and it was a successrid dinner 2. Councilwoman Waggaman reported that the Roaring Fork Holding Authority is trying to purchase in rail right-of-way. The closing will be in the next several weeks. 3. Amy Margerum, city manager, scheduled the charette for Independence Place for April 16 from 2 to 6 p.m. The work session for the Downtown Enhancement is scheduled for May 13 at 4 p.m. The Aspen Mountain PUD should be continued to May 19th. The April 4th task force on Main street design issues should go from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Councilman Marolt moved to continue the Aspen Mountain PUD to May 19th; seconded by Councilman Paulson. All in favor, motion carried. Councilwoman Waggaman moved to add an executive session for the purpose of discussing real property acquisition, negotiations, and potential lawsuits; seconded by Councilwoman Richards. All in favor, motion carried. Asoen City Council Regular Meetin~ March 24, 1997 CONSENT CALENDAR Mayor Bennett removed Resolution # 19, Series of 1997, ballot question on smoking to be the first action item. Councilwoman Richards said she would like to see a scope of work on the Burlingame ranch before any work begins. Councilwoman Richards moved to read Ordinances #10, 11, 12, and 13, Series of 1997; seconded by Councilman Paulson. All in favor, motion carried. Motion carried. RESOLUTION #19, SERIES OF 1997 - Advisory Ballot Question Smoking 3 Asoen City Council Regular Meetin~ March 24, 1997 Jim Wolff, clean air board, requested some minor language changes and moving the 4 choices around. Council agreed. Councilman Marolt moved to adopt Resolution #19, Series of 1997, as amended; seconded by Councilman Paulson. All in favor, motion carried. Councilwoman Richards moved to go into executive session for the purpose of discussion real property acquisition, negotiations and potential litigation; seconded by Councilman Paulson. All in favor, motion carried. Council went into executive session at 5:25 p.m. Councilwoman Richards moved to come out of executive session; seconded by Councilwoman Waggaman.
