Steve Buettow, Chairperson, called the Special Design Review Appeals
Commission meeting to order with members Gilbert Sanchez, Dave Johnson and
Bob Blaich. Staffmembers present were Sara Thomas, Community Development;
David Hoefer, Assistant City Attorney; Jackie Lothian, Deputy City Clerk.
COMMISSIONER~ STAFF and PUBLIC COMMENTS
Mary Hirsh was appointed as an alternate to the DeSign Review APpeals
Committee.
CONTINUED PUBLIC HEA~G (05/08797; 5/22/97 & 6/3/97):
935 GIBSON AVENUE, Mr. And Mrs. Tom Lewis - ConstrUction of a Garage
Steve Buettow opened the continued public hearing for the construction of a
garage at 935 Gibson Avenue. Notice was provided.
The board voiced concern over the curb cuts, tree mitigation and landscaping in a
limited amount of space.
David Panico represented the applicant, Mr. And Mrs. Tom Lewis.
No public comments.
MOTION: Bob Blaich moved to approve the wavier from the design review
standards which requires that all portions of a garage be recessed 10 feet
behind the front faqade of a building to allow for the construction of a garage
addition at the residence located at 935 Gibson Avenue finding that review
criteria "C" has been met and the condition that the curb be replaced and the
mitigation to the trees be approved by the Parks Department with
appropriate landscaping replacing the gravel. Dave Johnson second. Roll
call vote: Gilbert Sanchez, yes; Bob Blaich, yes; DaVe Johnson, yes; Steve
Buettow, no. APPROVED 3-1.
REVIEW CRITERIA: a) Yield greater compliance with the goals of the ASPen Area
Community Plan; b) more effectively address the issue or problem a given
standard or provision responds to; or c) be clearly necessary for reasons of
fairness related to unusual site specific constraints
