AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING EIGHT STRUCTURES AS H, HISTORIC
STRUCTURES PURSUANT TO SECTION 24-9.? OF THE ASPEN MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, the eight structures at 101 S. Mill Street
(Ellie's), 310 E. Main Street (Aspen Times Building), 100 S. Mill
Street (Chitwood Building), 333 W. Main Street, 420 W. Francis
Street, 734 W. Main Street (Sorensen's Antiques), 215 W. Blleker
Street, and 500 W. Bleeker Street were listed in the 1980
Inventory of Historic Sites and Structures for the City of Aspen,
Colorado as amended in 1986 and were evaluated as notable and
excellent historic resources; and
WHEREAS, the owner of these properties have requested
designation of their properties; and
WHEREAS, the Aspen Historic Preservation Committee and Aspen
Planning and Zoning Commission have found these properties worthy
of historic designation at a joint public hearing on February 3,
1987 and a following meeting on February 17, 1987 and have
recommended to the City Council that the eight structures be
designated and a suffix of "H" be attached to the zoning of these
properties and the real estate records; and
WHEREAS, City Council wishes to pursue those recommendations
and complete the designation process.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY TIlE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO: =~ _~
That the following structures be granted historic designation and
the suffix of "H" be attached to their zoning and real estate
records:
101 S. Mill Street (Ellie's) Lots G, H, and I, Block 80,
Original Aspen Townsite;
310 E. Main Street (Aspen Times Building), Lots M and parts
of N and L, Block 79, Original Aspen Townsite;
100 S. Mill Street (Chitwood Building), Lots A, B, C, and D,
Block 87, Original Aspen Townsite;
333 W. Main Street, Lots A and B, Block 45, Origianl Aspen
Townsite;
734 W. Main Street (Sorensen's Antiques), Lots K and L.
Block 18, Original Aspen Townsite;
420 W. Francis Street, Lots N and O, Block 34, Original
Aspen Townsite;
215 W. Bleeker Street, Lot P, Block 51, Original Aspen
Town site;
500 W. Bleeker Street, Lots R and S, Block 29, Original
Aspen Townsite.
If any provision of this Ordinance or the application thereof to
any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall
not affect other provisions or application of the Ordinance which
can be given effect without the invalid provision or application,
and to this end the provisions of this Ordinance are declared to
be severable.
That a public hearing be held on this Ordinance on the ~'~"'< day
of J~LL~-- , 1987, at 5:00 P.M., in the City Council
Chambers, Aspen City Hall, Aspen, Colorado, fifteen (15) days
prior to which hearing notice of the same shall be published once
within a newspaper of general circulation within the City.
INTRODUCED, READ, ORDERED published as provided by law by
the City Council of the City of Aspen, Colorado, at its regular
