HomeMy WebLinkAboutordinance.council.001-75RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS 100 Leaves ORDINANCE NO. / (Series of 1975) AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2 "ADMINISTRATION" OF THE ASPEN MUNICIPAL CODE BY THE ADDITION OF SECTION 2-92 THERE- TO; WHICH SECTION PROVIDES THAT IN THE EVENT A CANDIDATE FOR OR PERSON FILLING THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF FINANCE DEMONSTRATES CREDENTIALS, ABILITY OR EXPERIENCE MERITING A SALARY GREATER THAN THAT PROVIDED FOR IN SECTION 2-91, THE CITY COUNCIL MAY, ON RECOMMENDATION OF THE CITY MANAGER, AUTHORIZE COMPENSATION AT AN AMOUNT GREATER THAN THE MAXIMUM PAY GRADE AND POSITION CLASSIFICATION PROVIDED FOR IN SAID SECTION WHEREAS, The City Council is apprised of the fact that securing competent appointees to the Office of the Director of Finance may, on occasion, require payment of compensation at amounts greater than provided for in Section 2-91, and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to authorize exemption from the maximum salary limitation in said section when an out- standing candidate applies for or retains the position, and to, by ordinance, establish a procedure for ratification of such salary increases, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO, Section 1 That the Municipal Code of the City of Aspen, colorado, is hereby amended by adding a section which said section reads as follows: "Sec. 2-92. Employment of Director of Finance at Salary above that provided in Sec. 2-91. Whenever, in the opinion of and on the recom- mendation of, the City Manager, a candidate for a RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS 100 Leaves person presently filling the office of Director of Finance, presents credentials or experience or ability merging appointment or continuation in office at a salary greater than the maximum salary provided for in Sec. 2-91, the City Council may, by motion, approve such increased salary. The Director of Finance so appointed shall enjoy cost of living and longevity increases without additional Council approval, but no subsequent base salary increases shall occur without notice to and approval by the City Council." Section 2 If any provision of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provisions or applications, and to this end the provisions or applications of this ordinance are declared to be severable. Section 3 A public hearing on this ordinance shall be held on the .~? day of ~~ , 1975, at 5 P.M. in the City Council Chambers, Aspen City Hall, Aspen, Colorado.
