ORDINANCE NO. 42
(Series of 1978)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2-76(a) OF THE
ASPEN MUNICIPAL CODE BY DELETING THE PROVISION
FOR EMPLOYEE COST OF LIVING INCREASES
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Aspen desires
to amend Section 2-76(a) of the Municipal Code by the deletion
of the provision for employee cost of living increases for
the benefit of the City of Aspen,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ASPEN, COLORADO:
Section 1
That Section 2-76(a) of the Aspen Municipal Code is
hereby repealed and reenacted to read as follows:
Sec. 2-76. Method of compensation by classification.
(a) Employees shall be employed in accordance with
their respective pay grade number classification as
determined by the pay schedule and position classifi-
cation in effect at the time o£ their employment and
shall commence a probationary period of six (6)
months with the exception of sworn police officers
which shall be twelve (12) months; thereafter,
apon approval of the city manager, such employees
may be raised to Steps B, C, D, E, F and G (or half
steps between). Merit increases must be approved
by both the department head and the city manager.
No longevity increases shall be awarded to employees
but nothing herein shall be construed to eliminate
longevity increases awarded prior to or enjoyed
before March 15, !976.
Section 2
If any provision of this ordinance or the application
thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such
invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications
o£ the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid
provision or application, and to this end the provisions of
this ordinance are declared to be severable.
Section 3
