ORDINANCE NO. ~
(Series of 1970)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ZONING DISTRICT MAP OF THE CITY OF
ASPEN, COLORADO, DATED MARCH 6, 1967, AS AMENDED, AND RE-
ZONING CERTAIN AREAS SURROUNDING THE ASPEN INSTITUTE
COMPLEX AS R-6 AND R-15.
WHEREAS, the Aspen planning and Zoning Commission and
the City Council for the City of Aspen have reviewed, upon
request of the citizens of Aspen, the zoning in the areas
surrounding the Aspen Institute Complex.
AND WHEREAS, it has been determined that following
annexation to the City of Aspen of the Aspen Institute Complex,
First Aspen Company Subdivision, Second Aspen Company Sub-
division, property abutting Gillespie Avenue, Meadows Road
and the Aspen Institute property west of Castle Creek was
intended to be re-zoned to correspond with previous re-zoning
in the County of Pitkin prior to their annexation.
AND WHEREAS, upon recommendation by the City of Aspen
Planning and Zoning Commission following the public hearing
on the re-zoning of said areas, and upon approval of said re-
zoning by the City Council, City of Aspen, Colorado, following
its public hearing,
AND WHEREAS, such re-zoning of the following described
areas is consistent with the purpose of promoting the health,
safety, morals, convenience, order, prosperity and welfare of
the present and future inhabitants of the City of Aspen,
Colorado, by: The lessening of congestion in the streets and
roads or reducing the waste of excessive amounts of roads;

securing safely from fire and other dangers; providing adequate
light and air; classification of land uses and the distribution
of land development and utilization; protection of the tax base;
securing economy in governmental expenditures; and the pro-
tection of urban and non-urban development,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF ASPEN,
COLORADO:
Section 1. That portion of the area annexed to the City
of Aspen, Colorado, by Ordinance No. 24, Series of 1969, des-
cribed as follows:
That portion of land belonging to the Aspen Institute
of Humanistic Studies which lies westerly of Castle
Creek; more particularly described as follows:
Beginning at the N.W. Corner of the S.W. ~
of the N.E. ~ of Section 12, Township 10 South,
Range 85 West of the Sixth Principal Meridian,
City of Aspen, County of Pitkin, State of
Colorado. Thence N. 82° 00' W, 864.19 feet to
the true point of beginning;
Thence N. 17° 40' 15" E, 100.35 Feet;
Thence N. 13° 01' 35" W, 65.0 Feet;
Thence N. 11° 33' 10" E, 96.68 Feet;
Thence N. O1° 50' 20" E, 114.04 Feet;
Thence N. 14° 30' 25" W, 64.31 Feet;
Thence N. 04° 08' 30" W, 286.13 Feet;
Thence N. 21° 28' 50" W, 171.56 Feet;
Thence N. 16° 21' 15" E, 305.82 Feet;
Thence N. 01° 02' 20" W, 53.05 Feet;
Thence Due West 123.61 Feet;
Thence N. 03° 00' W. 116.61 Feet;
Thence S. 82° 52' E. 501.52 Feet
to the centerline of Castle Creek; thence
southerly along the centerline of Castle Creek
to the North East corner of Lot 9 of the Castle
Creek Sub-division 240 feet more or less to the
true point of beginning.
A strip of land lying Easterly of and adjacent to
Meadows Road 150 feet in width. Bounded on the
Southerly end by the Northerly right-of-way of
W. North Street and on the Northerly end by an
Easterly projection of the Northerly line of that
unplatted portion of the Snobble Tract as shown
in Plat Ditch Book 2A, Page 249 filed in the office
of the Pitkin County Clerk and Recorder.
The Second Aspen Company Subdivision; Lots lA to
16 inclusive as shown in Plat Ditch Book 2A, Page
263 filed in the office of the Pitkin County Clerk
and Recorder.

Also to include that portion of unsubdivided land
located adjacent to the Aspen Company Subdivision as
shown in said Plat Book 2, Page 38 described as follows:
Beginning at the Southeast corner of Lot 2,
Block 1 of the Aspen Company Subdivision; thence
Northerly to the Northeast corner of said Lot 2,
Block 1; thence Easterly to the Northwest corner
of Lot 1, Block 2 of the Aspen Company Subdivision;
thence southerly to the Southwest corner of said
Lot 1, Block 2; thence Westerly to the point of
beginning
is hereby zoned R-15.
Section 2. That portion of the area annexed to the City
of Aspen, Colorado, by Ordinance No. 24, Series of 1969, des-
cribed as follows:
A strip of land 100 feet in width lying northerly of
and adjacent to Gillespie Street. Bounded on the westerly
end by the easterly right-of-way line of Meadows Road and
on the easterly end by the westerly right-of-way line of
Roaring Fork road.
is hereby zoned R-6.
Section 3. The Zoning District Map of the City of Aspen,
Colorado, dated March 6, 1967, as amended is hereby amended to
show the above described areas according to the zoning provid-
ed herein.
Section 4. If any provision of this Ordinance or the
application thereof to any person or circumstances is held in-
valid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or
applications of the Ordinance which can be given effect with-
out the invalid provisions or application, and to this end the
provisions of this Ordinance are declared to be, severable.
