Aspen, Colorado - Meeting Aspen City Council and Aspen Plapning Commission
November 26~ 1962.
Mayor Garfish opened the eetlng at 5:30 P.M. with Councilmen Beyer, Newell,

Moore and Zordel, City amlnlstrator Humphrey and City Attorney Stewart present. The

Planning Commission was represented by Herbert Bayer, Fred Glidden and Jack Walls.
Fritz Benedict was also present.
Mr. Bayer introduced Mr. Dick Bender, associate of Paul Wiener, to Council, and
told them that he is here to collect further data to begin first phase of long range
planning program as required by the State. Mr. Bender will prepare first presenta-
tions to Council which will cover all the area to be included in the plan.
Mr. Bayer referred to need for tact in handling information that is not yet
established.
Mayor Garfish referred to need for workers housing, and Bender said this will be
considered in plan.
Discussed - keeping plan current.
- public relations to be established by consultants.
Contract - Mr. Stewart said he had received letter of transmittal and 2 copies
of the form of contract which meets with ~overnment approval. Due to number of
copies required he asked approval of Council to have these ~un off outside of his
office. Council agreed, and copies are to be sent to Mr. Delaney and the County
Commissioners, also to each member of the City Council.
Permanent mall discussed - and Mr.w~ayer feets it is premature to make definite
Perm. designation at this time. He said Mr. lener favors Hyman Street between the Opera
Mall House and Elk's Building, burl no decision has been reached at this time. Mr. Bender
hopes to have recemmendation before next spring. He also said they are required to
make recommendation about historical buildings. They will maintain office here when
it becomes necessary, as required by contract,
Mr~ Bayer requested another meeting for further discussion.
