HomeMy WebLinkAboutminutes.council.19660722· i~i Special Meeting Aspen City Council July 22~ 1966 Mayor Robert Barnard called the special meeting to order at 2:15 p.m., with Councilmen David E. Stapleton, Werner Kuster, William McEachern, Clyde Clymer, Provisional City Attorney Janet Gaylord, City Administrator Leon Wurl and City Treasurer Sam Lum. Mayor Robert Barnard read the followiBg Resolution in full: RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City of Aspen, Colorado, and the City of Garmisch- Sister Cities Partenkirchen, Germany, have heretofore resolved to be Sister naming of Bavaria Park Cities, with all the privileges and duties pertaining to such status; AND WHEREAS, the City of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the City of Aspen have agreed to exchange visits of their respective city officials during the summer and fall of the year 1966; AND WHEREAS, the City of Aspen wishes to welcome and honor said visiting officials of the City of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and to afford to them all the privileges and benefits enjoyed by the citizens of Aspen; AND WHEREAS, THE CITY OF ASPEN is the owner of certain real property located in Pitkin County, Colorado; AND WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Aspen desires that said property be permanen~tly dedicated to the people of the County of Pitkin for park and recreation purposes; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the following described property be and hereby is permanently dedicated and set aside for use by the public for park and recreation purposes: All of Block 48, lying South and West of the Center Line of the Roaring Fork River, as shown on the Plat of Entry by the Mayor of Aspen of East Aspen Addition AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the above ~scribed real property is hereby named and shall be hereafter entitled BAVARIA PARK: and shall be hereafter denominated as such on all official maps and plats of the City of Aspen. Councilman Stapleton moved to adopt the Resolution as read. Seconded by Councilman McEachern. Roll call vote - Councilmen Kuster aye; Stapleton aye; McEachern aye; Clymer aye. 5O3 Special Meeting Aspen City Council July 22, 1966 The following Resolution was read in full by Mayor Robert Barnard: RESOLUTION WHEREAiS, the City of Aspen, Colorado, and the City of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, have heretofore re- solved to be Sister Cities, with all the privileges Sister Cities and duties pertaining to such status; AND, WHEREAS, THE City of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the renamed Center City of Aspen have agreed to exchange visits of their St. to Garmisch respective city officials during the surmner and Strasse. fall of the year 1966; AND, WHEREAS, the City of Aspen wishes to welcome and honor said visiting officials of the City of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and to afford to them all the privileges and benefits enjoyed by the citizens of Aspen; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the public street in the City of Aspen, Colorado, known as Center Street is hereby renamed and shall be hereafter entitled GARMISCH STRA.SSE; and shall be hereafter denominated as such on all official maps and plats of the City of Aspen~ Councilman Kuster moved to adopt the Resolution as read. Seconded by Councilman Stapleton. Roll call vote - Councilmen McEachern aye; Kuster aye; Clymer aye; Stapleton aye. Burgermeister Philipp Schumpp of Garmisch-Partenkirch B Mayor and Aldermen, I acknowledge the Resolutions you have read in front of me and I agree with all Burgermeister the points which are in~ these Resolutions and I again want ~o express the great Schumpp pleasure I have that I came to this great partnership between Aspen and Garmisch- Partenkirchen. I n order to cement this partnership between Garmisch-Partenkirchen I turn over this certificate we have prepared and at the same time the City Flag which was just before on the~ Town Rail of Garmisck-Pa~tenkirchen. Burgermeister Philipp Schumpp handed to all City Officials a Garmisch-Partenkirchen pin. Mayor Robert Barnard read in full the following Resolution: .RE SOLUT I ON WHEREAS, THE C~y of Aspen, Colorado and the City of Burgermeister Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, have heretofore re- Schumpp Honorar' solved to be Sister Cities, with all the privileges Citizen and duties pertaining to such status; AND, WHEREAS, the City of ~arm~sch-Partenkirchen and the City of Aspen have agreed to exchange visits of their respective city officials during the summer and fall of the year 1966; AND, WHEREAS, the City of Aspen wishes to welcome and honor said visiting officials of the City of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and to afford to them all the privileges and benefits enjoyed by the citizens of Aspen; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That Burgermeister Philipp Schumpp of Garmisch- Partenkirchen, is hereby constituted an honorary citizen of the City of Aspen, Colorado,, and shall be entitled to all the privileges and benefits appertaining thereto. Councilman McEachernmoved to adopt ~hi~ Resolution as read. Seconded by Councilman Kuster. Roll call vote Councilmen Stapleton aye; Kuster aye; Mc- Eachern aye; Clymer aye. Mayor Barnard then presented a key to the City to Burgermeister Schumpp. Councilman Stapleton moved to adjourn, seconded by Councilman McEachern at 2:45 p.m. with all Councilmen in favor.
