HomeMy WebLinkAboutminutes.council.19721120Special Meeting Aspen City Council November 20~ 1972 Meeting was called to order by Mayor Homeyer at 5:05 p.m. wlth Councilmen Scott Nystrom, James Breasted, Ross Griffin, Ramona Markalunas and Jack Walls. Prior to the special meeting executive session was held to interview applicants for City Attorney and members of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Ballots were submitted showing the results for City Attorney as follows: Arthur Daily 4; Sandra Stuller 1; and Maxwell Aley 1. Ballots for vacancies of the Planning and Zoning Commission: showed Barbara Lewis appoint- ed for a term to expire on July 1, 1973 and Bruce Gillis appointed for a term to expire July 1, 1975. :[376 Special Meeting Aspen City Council November 20, 1972 Mr. Dillingham was present and objected to the contract being awarded to Phil's Sinclair. Towing Bids Reasons given were equipment requirements are not the same and the winning bidder did not meet the specifications. Feel his truck is not capable of handling-large trucks or .... buses and the owner lives in Glenwood Springs and cannot be on call 24 hours a day. Mr. Dillingham also stated he proposed a radio so that he can ~be contacted by radio .a~ all times and has also let the Police Department use his inside storage when it was necessary. Stated he has on order~ a 1973~or~e_~tnnwrecRer which would be on standby at all times. Chief Ritchey reported Mr. Holmes of Sinclair stated in his bid he is planning on buying another truck. Discussed Items #5 and #6 being omitted from these specifications over last years. Coun- cil agreed to submit the bids to the City Attorney for an opinion as to whether the bid- ding was correct and if the item can be re-.bid based on the problem of the specifications. Further agreed that if ne~'spe¢ifications ~re prepared and the project is rebid, the specifications, include tonage that is capable of hauling large vehicles. Also agreed to extend the present contract for 30 days and next contract be prepared to expire the last day of September, 1973. Student Representive Timber Dick stated the girls of the Petition's Committee will be in Initiative town over Than'ksgiving Week-end and would like. to meet with Council then if at all~poss- Referendum ible. Stated he had talked to the girls and both expressed delaying the date for the closure for six months and still hold the election in December. City/County Planner Herb Bartel stated he had received ~ call from the Design School at Colorado University that the five students that will be d~ing this prQject cannot~begin until February first on the design of the malls. These are fifth year students who will be doing this pro- ject as their year project. Council agreed to schedule a special meeting for December 29th at 5:00 p.m. with Mr. Truman owner of the railroad property. Council agreed on the 6 finalist for interviews for the position of City Manager. Agreed to meet on December 9th beginning at 10:00 a.m. and allow 45 minutes for each interview. Council agreed that any applicant who is offered the job and does not accept will not be reimbursed for their expenses. Councilman Walls moved to go into executive session, seconded by Councilman Griffin. Ail in favor, motion carried.
