Applicant: GUCCI Project Description: The Applicant, GUCCI store, located in the Brand Building, requests Representative: David Guthrie administrative approval to construct an awning over their Galena Street and Hopkins Avenue Project Location: Brand Building, entrances. Zone District: CC and CC Historic District Overlay Recommended Action: Approval with Conditions Staff Comments: The Applicant requests the ability to construct awnings over the entrances to their store located in the Brand Building. An awning is requested for their storefronts on Galena Street and Hopkins Avenue. The photos above show the current storefronts where the proposed awnings will be placed. . -2- May 14, 2001 The GUCCI store is located in the Brand Building, which is designated as a Landmark on the City's Inventory of Historic Sites and Structures and is located in the Commercial Core Historic District. The Community Development Director has approved awnings of this type proposed for buildings similar to the Brand Building through an administrative action. Further, the Land Use Code indicates that awnings may be determined as exempt by the Community Development Director pursuant to Section 26.415.010(A)(2)(c) so long as "none of the significant features of the structure may be destroyed or permanently removed." Staff reviewed this request on Thursday, May 10% and determined that this proposal could also be handled administratively (as Exempt) if the following conditions were met: 1. That the Applicant submit elevations of the proposed awnings with details as to their dimensions, location, and points of attachment to the Brand Building; and 2. That the Applicant is required to meet the City of Aspen's sign code regulations. The Applicant has submitted this information and it is attached as Exhibit A with this Notice of Decision. The Applicant proposes to attach the awning to the existing wood cornice where the other storefront awnings are also attached so that there is no impact or damage to the stone facing or mortar joints on the building. The dimension and locations of the proposed awnings will be similar to the existing awning on the building for the Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton storefronts pictured below. i""'- 1- I . The specified color is a very clean dark brown called "Gucci brown" but they may not be able to purchase that fabric and alternatively would select black to match the other awnings currently on the building.
